Magic City HBCU Breakfast
Thursday, October 23, 2025 (7:30 AM - 9:30 AM) (CDT)
Description
October is Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Month. HBCU Month recognizes the invaluable contributions of Alabama's HCBUs as economic engines, producing skilled graduates and driving innovation in STEM here in the Birmingham region and State of Alabama. In honor of HBCUs throughout our state, we invite you to join us for the Birmingham Business Alliance's (BBA) annual Magic City HBCU Breakfast presented by Spire Thursday, Oct. 23 from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. at The Harbert Center. Event proceeds will benefit the United Negro College Fund (UNCF), the nation's largest and most effective minority education organization.
Attendees will hear from featured speaker UNCF Executive Vice President of Research & Member Engagement Dr. Walter M. Kimbrough, a nationally recognized leader in higher education. A native of Atlanta, he earned degrees from the University of Georgia, Miami University in Ohio and a doctorate in higher education from Georgia State University. Dr. Kimbrough has served as president of Philander Smith College, Dillard University and interim president of Talladega College. He is a noted scholar on HBCUs, African American men in college, and fraternity and sorority life, as well as a national voice on free speech in higher education. Dr. Kimbrough has been recognized by outlets such as Education Dive, The Best Schools, and College Cliffs, and was appointed by President Joe Biden to the President’s Board of Advisors on HBCUs.
The BBA's Magic City HBCU Breakfast emphasizes the essential collaboration between the business community and HBCUs, and we are excited to welcome Dr. Kimbrough. Additionally, we will have special performances and/or appearances by the Lawson State Community College Concert Choir and Cougar Mascot along with the Miles College Mascot, Byron the Golden Bear.
By engaging with HBCUs, local businesses gain access to a rich pool of diverse talent, empowering them to advance their DEI objectives and create a more inclusive environment. Moreover, these partnerships play a pivotal role in providing exceptional opportunities for HBCU students to excel and contribute to our region's economic growth.
Tickets for BBA investors are $55. General admission tickets are $75.
